At the far reaches of a stellar Empire, Thomas Kempis, a revered player of The Game, is caught up in the schemes of the Imperial Ambassador Jessup. Jessup may be planning a feint, or war, or revenge, or pacification of a sector-wide uprising. Kempis is swept up in Jessup’s enigmatic plans, never assured whether he is meant to oppose or fulfill the uncertain will of the Ambassador’s Emperor. Keeper Stations is a novel of dreams and desire, love and its absence, the imaginary conspiracies that haunt our lives.

"Keeper Stations" will be immediately familiar to anyone who has read "Dune." The author candidly admits to this influence, as well as others, in his acknowledgements at the end of the book, but it should only take a few pages to recognize the stylistic similarities. Like that series, "Keeper Stations" offers very dense prose that invites the reader to move slowly, savoring the language and imagery while considering the direction of the action. This is not a typical science fiction thriller; it requires a more thoughtful and attentive audience.I would certainly like to see more from Curtis Karnow in the future, though I do think he could benefit from a better editor. Some passages seemed like they could have been written more succinctly, and there were more typos throughout than is typical. Still, these are small complaints that do little to detract from the overall experience.
For my money, "Keeper Stations" represents an intriguing entry in the realm of science fiction in general and the subgenre of political science fiction in particular. Your enjoyment will depend on whether you appreciate the author's style and pacing; if you do, then "Keeper Stations" is a hidden gem and a real treat.

Keeper Stations Curtis Karnow 9781480063334 Books Reviews
What a great novel! I don't know who this Curtis Karnow is, but he is the next Frank Herbert! Scintillating from beginning to end, such imaginative characters and even maps to help immerse yourself in the universe. I wish the margins had been smaller and there had been more illustrations and romance, but still my favorite book ever. Crossing my fingers for a sequel!
